- 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 16 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round pans.
Mix flour, sugar, baking soda, cocoa, and salt.
Add wet ingredients to dry and mix until smooth.
Divide batter between pans and bake 30-35 minutes.
Cool completely.
For frosting: beat cream cheese and butter until fluffy.
Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, beating until smooth.
Frost cooled cake layers.
Chef's Comfy Tip
Make sure your cream cheese and butter are truly softened for the frosting - cold ingredients will make it lumpy.
