- 1 cup strong black coffee
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- Black pepper to taste
Instructions
Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
Fry country ham slices 2-3 minutes per side until edges are crispy.
Remove ham and set aside, keeping warm.
Add butter to the skillet with ham drippings.
Pour in coffee and water, scraping up browned bits from the bottom.
Stir in brown sugar and simmer 3-4 minutes until slightly reduced.
Season with black pepper.
Pour gravy over ham and serve with biscuits or grits.
Chef's Comfy Tip
Country ham is quite salty, so you can soak the slices in water for 30 minutes before cooking if you prefer a milder flavor.
