Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh blackberries
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar, divided
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

Combine blackberries, 1 cup sugar, water, and butter in large pot.

Bring to boil, reduce heat, and simmer 5 minutes.

Mix flour, remaining 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Stir in milk until just combined.

Drop dumpling batter by spoonfuls onto simmering berries.

Cover and cook 15 minutes without lifting lid.

Dumplings should be cooked through and puffy.

Serve warm in bowls with vanilla ice cream.
